Assistant Engineer to Vic Keary
At practically 21 years old, Ricky’s the youngest member of our team but he’s been heavily involved with Thermionic for over three years.
In fact, one of Ricky’s earliest Thermionic projects showed off his electronic whizz kid status to the max - designing our highly innovative Solo Vulture product. As a keen guitarist who’d already been building his own all-valve high-gain amplifiers at home, Ricky played an essential role in modifying the Culture Vulture into a versatile stand alone pre-amp for guitars and other musical instruments. He designed the product’s noiseless switching circuit as well as inputting his own insightful variations into the audio circuit.
Ricky fulfils a number of roles at the company and he relishes every single one, whether that be problem-solving prototypes, liaising with Vic over new design ideas, managing quality control, liaising with customers over technical queries or testing new units with his trusty Prism dScope. This October Ricky was to be found at the AES Show in LA where the feedback from users was extremely positive saying - ; this guy really knows what he is talking about ‘!
When Ricky’s not beavering away in the Thermionic workshop, you’ll probably find him either designing new all-valve guitar amps, laying down tracks in his home studio or following his favourite metal bands on the UK live circuit.
When it comes to long-play listening pleasure, Ricky believes music doesn’t get much better than ‘Ascendancy’ by Trivium or ‘Reroute To Remain’ by In Flames while other current favourite acts include DevilDriver, Iron Maiden, All That Remains and Rise Against.
